Mr Brian Lovell CEO
Brian Lovell is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Federation of International Forwarders Ltd (AFIF). In addition he holds the position of Secretary-General to the Federation of Asia Pacific Aircargo Associations (FAPAA). Originally from the UK Brian spent his early years after leaving London University College Hammersmith, with the Thomas Meadows group at London’s Heathrow Airport learning the Customs Clearance and Forwarding business. In 1981, he was offered the opportunity to go to Sydney, Australia and join group company AFA Meadows as a management trainee and remained throughout it's mergers and changes until 1988. He then joined Simpac Customs and Forwarding (which became Wilson Australia) in the position of International Forwarding Manager, responsible for the Air and Seafreight, Import / Export departments. During these times Brian had the responsibility of running these departments as a separate business entity. In 1990, Brian took an active voluntary role with the peak Airfreight representative body - Australian Federation of Airfreight Forwarders (AFAFF) and assisted the growth and development of their Industry Education and Training role. During this time he held the honorary positions of President, NSW Branch and Federal Director of Education services. In 1994, he was offered the opportunity to take on the challenge of the Federation’s first full-time CEO. In 1996 AFAFF joined forces with the Seacargo Forwarders Rep body IFAA to form AFIF and Brian was appointed CEO of the merged entity. In 1996 he was also appointed Secretary-General to the 16 Member country Federation of Asia Pacific Aircargo Associations (FAPAA) and currently manages their Secretariat functions in a part-time capacity on behalf of AFIF. In 2000, he achieved ‘Certified Association Executive’ (CAE) status from the College of Civic Management and in the same year was part of the Industry Working Group Quarantine (IWGQ) Education Sub-Committee who won the National Quarantine Award for ‘Media and Education contribution to Quarantine’. Brian also currently holds the following positions and /or is a member of the following Australian National and State Industry Bodies and Committees:
