PortBIS

PortBIS is a port community business information system that is designed to connect all maritime supply chain users so that necessary information about consignments and containers can be shared between the parties.

PortBIS is intended to enable users to submit data once and use it many times.

PortBIS will be implemented in a series of phases and utilises Tradegate’s existing Smartimports and ExportNet services.

The first phase of PortBIS is the supply of empty container return information to the importer or freight forwarder as close to real time as possible. The information is generated from the empty container park when the container is returned and passed to the importer / freight forwarder in the format they require, eliminating delays in following up missing containers or chasing up on detention invoices long after the container was returned. Importers and freight forwarders now have visibility and closure in real time for their import containers.

Additionally, PortBIS receives a live feed of real-time vessel arrivals/departures from Sydney Ports Corporation, Maritime Safety Queensland and Flinders Ports. We are expecting to have Fremantle Ports and Port of Melbourne Corporation in third quarter of 2010.

In PortBIS you now have the ability to track your import empty container to the day it is returned to the empty container park. PortBIS is currently receiving empty return information from 45 empty container return locations across Australia on behalf of 12 shipping lines including Maersk, Hapag Lloyd, Hamburg Sud, NYK, PAE, MISC, APL, COSCO, Marfret, Zim, STX Pan Ocean, and Inchcape. This data can be provided directly to the importer or freight forwarder via email, the web or EDI directly into your in-house system.
